Where can I take the courses to become a real estate associate?
Administered by the Alberta Real Estate Association, the pre-licensing program, which includes Introduction to a Career in Real Estate, a mandatory prerequisite to the Real Estate Associates Program, and the Real Estate Associates Program can both be taken in the classroom at locations across Alberta or online.

Can a REALTOR® from another province work in Alberta?
The Real Estate Council of Alberta has agreements with a number of Canadian provinces and some U.S. locations. If an agreement is in place with your current location, you may be exempt from some educational requirements. Click on the link for more information.

Does each phase of the pre-licensing program for real estate associates require its own registration form?
Yes. Registration forms are available at your delivery institution. Registration requirements must be met at least two (2) business days prior to the class start date. Each phase will require accompanying documents:
Phase 1 - basic contact information, as there are no prerequisites;
Phase 2 - official transcript (sent directly to AREA from the institution you attended), a copy of your birth certificate, current drivers licence, passport or citizenship card, legal proof of name change (if applicable) and proof of completion of Phase 1;
Phase 3 - proof of successful completion of Phase 2 and your AREA ID.

What are the deadlines for registering for the pre-licensing program for real estate associates?
All forms and accompanying documentation (transcripts, ID, etc.) must be received by AREA no later than two days before the desired start date. Official transcripts must be sent directly from the educational institution. AREA cannot accept transcripts that are hand-delivered or mailed by learners. 
How long is the pre-licensing program for real estate associates?
Phase 1 contains a self-study component followed by one day in the classroom or completion of an online course.
Phase 2 is approximately four weeks long, including one week for exams.
Phase 3 is approximately six weeks long, including days for writing exams.
Final exams are administered shortly after classes end.
Learners may take up to six months to complete phase two and up to one year to complete phase three (for a total of 18 months to complete REAP). This timeframe includes final exams and rewrites. 
Does each section in Phase 3 of the pre-licensing program for real estate associates have a final exam or will there be one final exam?
Each section is followed by a final exam. 
After completing the pre-licensing program, how long do I have to get my real estate associate’s licence?
You must apply for your real estate licence within one year of completing the program. Visit www.reca.ca for information on licensing requirements.
